Our fifth day in Gent, Belgium we visited Museum Dr. Guislain, formally a psychiatric hospital but opened as a museum in 1986 exhibiting the history of psychiatry in Belgium.

Displayed were artifacts and art from those who were patients dealing with various kinds of mental health disorders. This offered a powerful look into the minds of the patients and how individuals with mental health disorders have been treated throughout time. This experience was thought provoking and led conversations throughout the rest of the day.

Then, we spent the earlier part of the afternoon taking in the city for one last time- enjoyed lunch and picking up souvenirs to remember this part of our study abroad trip. The second part of the afternoon we spent on the campus of HoGent University of Applied Sciences and Arts engaging in an interprofessional meeting with Chris Swerts who is a lecturer and researcher at the University. In this meeting we talked all things ethics, mental health, and how to be an effective and compassionate professional.

We ended the day off with a group meal at Mazaya, a Syrian restaurant. It was an amazing last day in Gent and we are eager to begin our journey to Paris tomorrow!
